Help and answers

Straight answers to the questions dog businesses ask us most. Can't find yours? Email woof@trusthoundapp.com.

Getting started

What is Trusthound?

Trusthound is booking, payments and care-records software for dog walkers, dog daycares, home boarders and boarding kennels. It runs on iPhone, Android and the web, and your clients get an app with your name, logo and colours.

How long does it take to set up?

Most businesses are taking bookings the same day. Add your services and prices, add or import your clients, and send them their invite links. If you'd like, we'll import your client list for you.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. 14 days with every feature, and no card needed to start.

Can I import my existing clients?

Yes. Send your client list to woof@trusthoundapp.com as a spreadsheet or an export from your current software, and we'll import your clients and dogs for you, free.

Which countries does Trusthound work in?

The UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and the rest of Europe. It uses your country's currency, tax label, units and time zone by default.

Do I need a computer?

No. Everything works on your phone. The web dashboard is there for desk jobs like bulk invoicing, if you prefer a bigger screen.

Bookings and scheduling

Can I set up recurring walks?

Yes. Set a pattern once, such as every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and skip individual dates for holidays without breaking the series.

Can clients book themselves?

Clients can request bookings and changes in your app. You confirm or decline each request, and you choose which services clients can request.

Can I limit the number of dogs on a group walk?

Yes. Each service has a capacity, and Trusthound won't let a booking go over it.

How does collection planning work?

Trusthound places your clients' addresses on a map and suggests an order for the day's pick-ups, with an expected time for each stop and any preferred collection windows taken into account. You approve it, and the walker's app follows the same order.

Can I assign bookings to staff?

Yes. Each booking can be assigned to a team member, and it appears in their Today list.

Payments and invoices

How do my clients pay me?

By card or direct debit, through your own Stripe account. Clients set up a direct debit (NZ BECS) once in your app, and each invoice is collected from their New Zealand bank account when it's due.

Does Trusthound charge a fee on payments?

No. Trusthound takes no cut and adds no per-transaction fee. You pay Stripe's standard processing rates for your country, charged by Stripe directly to your Stripe account, and the money goes to your bank.

How long do payouts take?

Stripe pays out to your bank account on a rolling schedule that depends on your country and account. You can see it in your Stripe dashboard.

Can I invoice everyone at once?

Yes. Bulk invoicing creates invoices for all your clients' bookings in a period in one go.

Does it handle GST?

Yes. Trusthound suggests your country's standard rate and label, and you set the rate that applies to you and whether your prices include tax. It never decides your tax position for you.

Are unpaid invoices chased automatically?

Yes. Trusthound sends polite reminders for unpaid invoices, so you don't have to.

Records and licences

What can I record each day?

Check-in and check-out, feeding, medication, toileting, exercise, health checks, cleaning and notes, plus incidents and staff training.

Do the records meet my licence conditions?

No software can get you a council approval or licence. Council bylaws set the rules for dogs and dog walkers. Trusthound gives you dated daily care records and an inspection pack PDF for any dates.

What is the inspection pack?

A PDF of your care logs, medication records, incidents, staff training and vaccinations for any date range, up to three months at a time, ready to hand to an inspector.

Can I log without signal?

Yes. Logs, walks and photos are saved on your phone and sync when you're back in range.

How long are records kept?

As long as your account is open, and you can export them at any time. Some licence conditions say how long you must keep records, so export a copy if you're closing your account.

Your clients and the owner app

Do my clients need to download an app?

They can use the free Trusthound app for iPhone or Android, or a web link. Either way, they see your business name, logo and colours.

What can owners do in the app?

Request bookings, pay invoices, see walk updates with photos and routes, message you, update their dogs' details and consents, upload vaccination certificates and agree to your terms.

How do vaccination reminders work?

Before a vaccination runs out, and once a year, Trusthound asks the owner to upload their certificate. AI reads the dates, and someone at your business confirms them before they count.

Can clients chat with each other?

Only if you switch on the community. It's off by default, members use a display name and never see each other's contact details, and you can hide posts and remove members.

Can I send an announcement to everyone?

Yes. Send by push, in the app or by email, now or scheduled, to everyone, to clients on a service or to chosen clients. Marketing messages only go to clients who've agreed to them.

Data, security and privacy

Where is my data stored?

On Amazon Web Services in London (eu-west-2), including backups.

Are access codes secure?

Lockbox, door, alarm and gate codes are encrypted in our database, and each time a team member reveals one, it's logged.

Who owns the data?

You do. For your clients' data, you're the controller and we're your processor. You can export it at any time.

Does the AI learn from my data?

No. AI features run on Amazon Bedrock, and Amazon doesn't use your content to train models. Every AI draft is checked by a person before it's used.

How does Trusthound handle the Privacy Act 2020?

Trusthound is hosted in London and our privacy policy follows the Privacy Act 2020. You're responsible for your clients' information and we process it for you. You can export or delete a client's data from their profile.

Plans and billing

How much does Trusthound cost?

Solo is $32, Team is $75 and Facility is $149, a month, plus GST where applicable. Every plan has every feature.

What's the difference between plans?

Only the number of team members: 1 on Solo, up to 5 on Team and up to 15 on Facility.

Can I cancel any time?

Yes. There's no contract. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.

Can I get a tax invoice for my subscription?

Yes, if you subscribe on the website. If you subscribe in the iPhone or Android app, Apple or Google bill you and provide the receipt.

What happens to my data if I cancel?

You can export it before and after you cancel. After your account closes, we delete it within the period set out in our privacy policy, except where the law requires us to keep it.
